Re-enacting Co.G
The 18th Virginia Co.G, a UK based re-enactment unit was formed in 1996 by a small group of forward thinking inovators that wanted more in terms of authenticity from their hobby. Although none of the 'originals' are still with the 18th, the current members salute their bold step in forming the unit and continue in the progressive manner they initiated.
We strive to represent the day to day campaign life that citizen soldiers would have experienced during the middle period (1863) of the American Civil War. We choose to portray Company G of the 18th Virginia Regiment, Army of Northern Virginia.
We portray the campaign life of a Confederate soldier utilising only what can be carried on the march. We strive for very high standards of authenticity in terms of uniform, food, camp and above all deportment. We also push the boundries of the re-enactment experience into the mirky waters of 'first person' which can lead to the elusive 'period rush' that progressives crave.
We focus on the military side of the war, and due to the privations of our camp life we are not a family friendly unit. Our ethos is to get as close as is practicable to the experiences and mindset of these men during this period of history, we are however sensible of the gravity in portraying such brave men, and we do not do so lightly.
We choose to remain as proud members of the American Civil War Society, but also work with other excellent organisations such as the American Eagle Society and The Volunteer Company of Soskan.
The 18th Virginia will appeal to those people who wish to go as far as they can in experiencing the life of a Confederate on campaign, whilst still reaping the benefits of the mainstream's large numbers. We are always recruiting and on the look out for like minded individuals with or without re-enactment experience.
